Empowering the Community, One Donation at a Time
A Resounding Success
The food drive, aptly named "FoodforALX," was a resounding success, with 34 collection sites across the city. Volunteer Alexandria's executive director, Marion Brunken, expressed her delight at the outcome, stating, "We are pleased with the outcome of this drive. It not only collected the necessary food, but also raised a lot of awareness in the community. Dozens of volunteers were engaged in this effort, as well as numerous businesses."
Strengthening Community Partnerships
The drive's success was made possible through the collaborative efforts of various community organizations. Passport Auto Group, The Hoffman Town Center, Lisa Groover Real Estate-McEnearney Associates, Harris Teeter, Fitness Together, Wegmans, the Kiwanis Club of Alexandria, and the Zebra Press all played a crucial role in keeping donation boxes at their locations and supporting the initiative.
Ensuring Food Security for Those in Need
The food collected during the drive will be a significant boost to ALIVE!, the nonprofit organization that provides food assistance to thousands of individuals and families in the area. Jenn Ayers, the Executive Director of ALIVE!, expressed her gratitude, stating, "Donations like the ones we've received go a long way to keeping our costs down and provide a healthy variety of food to people who need help."
Fostering a Culture of Giving
The food drive not only addressed the immediate need for food assistance but also cultivated a sense of community and civic engagement. By involving volunteers and businesses, Volunteer Alexandria was able to raise awareness and inspire others to contribute to the cause. This collective effort demonstrates the power of community-driven initiatives in making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.
Continuing the Momentum
The success of the second annual food drive has set the stage for future initiatives. Volunteer Alexandria's commitment to addressing food insecurity in the community is unwavering, and the organization is already planning for the next drive. With the continued support of local businesses and the dedication of volunteers, Volunteer Alexandria is poised to make an even greater impact in the years to come.
